Estas dos expresiones traducen “hay”; la diferencia entre una y otra radica en la noción de singularidad o
pluralidad.
Empleamos “there is” para lo singular y “there are” para lo plural.

GRAMMAR: THERE IS / THERE ARE Estas dos expresiones traducen “hay”; la diferencia entre una y otra radica en la noción de singularidad o pluralidad. Empleamos “there is” para lo singular y “there are” para lo plural. Por ejemplo: There is a baby = Hay un bebé There are two babies = Hay dos bebés El modo singular posee una forma contraída; la forma contraída de “there is” es “there’s” y no hay forma contraída de “there are”. Para formular esta expresión en forma negativa debemos negar a partir del verbo “TO BE”, tal y como se hace regularmente (forma larga o contraída) Long Form There is not a baby = No hay un bebé There are not two babies No hay dos bebés Short Form There isn’t a baby = No hay un bebé There aren’t two babies No hay dos bebés Para formular preguntas ubicamos “TO BE” VERB al inicio con mayúscula, seguido de “THERE”, predicado y signo de interrogación. Ejemplo: Is there a baby? = ¿Hay un bebé? Are there two babies? = ¿Hay dos bebés? En caso tal de que haya una WH QUES
