The beauty of the fall colors is magnificent in Delta County. Taking a drive in the mountains with the coolness in the air and the bright landscape is breathtaking. The kids also return to their academic studies, new seasons start for TV series, and, of course, football!! Football is my favorite sport to watch, so I have been looking forward to the start of this season with great anticipation!. I realized something this last weekend. My husband and I recently purchased an ATV and decided to go up on the Mesa to spend some time riding and enjoying the end of summer. We spent the day bouncing around and laughing like a couple of kids. I think it is especially true for volunteers. Our fair city has so many selfless people who give not just money but their own precious time and talents. Delta’s volunteers represent all ages and walks of life. They receive little praise yet continue to give to their community in hopes of making it a better place for everyone. Volunteering does seem to be contagious. I have seen it passed through entire families, from the grandparents, to the parents and down to the kids. You can also catch it at work or church. Once you lend a helping hand to a cause, community event or purpose it is hard to stop. You find that “getting the credit” means very little, but the satisfaction of accomplishment means so very

The committee has met twice, and we are working on a lot of exciting additions to this year’s venue. The High Desert Opera will be at the Performing Arts Center with an 1890’s Western Colorado Opera with full orchestra. We also have a Christian Concert on Sunday afternoon with Christian musician Robin Mark, which will also be at the Performing Arts Center. How about a 5K run that finishes by running up Main Street, right before the parade starts? We plan to augment the mural/historic tour/ wine garden on Friday night, by adding art to the mix. We will have bull rides, street dances, vendors and activities in the park, and don’t forget the kick-off with the free Farmer-Rancher luncheon. There will be car shows, music, volleyball, a horseshoe tournament, geocaching, and the return of the B

We will have an incredible evening filled with fabulous entertainment, fantastic people and fine food. The celebration will take place from 6:00 - 10:00 p. m. on Saturday, March 10 at the Delta Elks Lodge. We will also be announcing the Business of the Year for small, medium and large businesses, Volunteer of the Year, and hosting a silent auction. Mark your calendars for this fun event and plan to come out to support our local businesses. Watch for your packet in the mail and vote for your favorite businesses. We are so excited about the “I Shop Delta” holiday promotion and are looking forward to “catching” people shopping with the local merchants and paying cash toward their purchases on the spot! We will be kicking off the campaign on Friday, December 2, during the 2011 Parade of Lights. The parade theme this year is “Historic Hometown Holiday”, which was submitted by Roxanne McCormick. The parade is sponsored by the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce and Wells Fargo Bank, with an additional sponsorship by DMEA of the LED portion of the parade. Santa will be in Delta for the parade and a meet-andgreet for the children at Wells Fargo after the parade. Santa will also be at the Chamber the following morning, December 3, from 9 to noon, so bring your children by to visit with him and, if you are planning to shop in Delta, you can leave the kids at the Chamber office to be entertained by the Board wi
