Money, money, money! Whatever you need it is going to cost you money, and
frequently quite a lot of it.
And in today’s throwaway society, items that have been
costly at one time are discarded without a second thought because of a scratch or
dent that the owner cannot repair.
How shocked our ancestors would be if they saw
the waste in our modern society knowing how they had to struggle sometimes for
years to be able to afford a specific item.
Through the war years even calico flour
bags were recycled into underwear as times were hard and everything was
rationed.
Recycling and mending were commonplace practices then.
Much of today’s attitude is easy come, easy go, and so little or no effort is used to
try to patch or darn clothing, fix broken heels on shoes, or even do repairs to
wobbly legs on chairs or tables.
This results in waste filling our dumps needlessly if
no recycling plant is available in the local area and money virtually being thrown
away
