ABOUT THE BOOK
My first visit to a Greek island was to Crete in 1980.
In those days the fishing
harbours at Agios Nikolaos and Elounda had an ambience that I immediately
embraced.
Together with the welcoming friendship the Greek people bestowed upon
myself and my family, an affection for the Greek islands began.
Over the following years we visited more of the islands and in their own
individual way, they offered that special blend of basic, natural beauty and
Greek hospitality.
Then in 2003 we visited Paros, which in the low season, when we holiday,
captured the essence of what captivated me back in 1980, notably the inner
harbour at Naoussa.
These poems and past memories express my feelings for all the Greek islands I
have visited, with candor, deep affection and a little light heartedness.
In
particular for Paros and its people, many who have become friends and I have the
pleasure of seeing, when we return to the island, year after year.
