Writing was first discovered in Mesopotamia around 4th millennium BC. Since then the development of writing has been a continuous process. Earlier the written material was the hegemony of the elite. Before the invention of paper,people used to write on parchment,leather or bark with natural ink . The coming of the printing press led to a revolution as now the written material could be read by masses. This made the society more educated and enlighted. The earliest of some written works were religious in nature. Soon prose and poem became an integral part of literature. The birth of long narrative prose called the novel took place in the medieval and early modern times. Poem as an independent genre started developing simultaneously. Another very important form of writing is newspapers.

Christian Faith Author : Marcy Watson Having Faith in your Faith I remember reading a poem called ‘The lamb’ by a noted Romantic poet William Blake. This poem is a part of his famous literary output called “Songs of Innocence and experience”. Written in a child-like rhyme and lucidity this poem establishes Jesus Christ as a shepherd, a lamb and a god thus painting the Christ in a threefold image residing at the helm of purity and innocence. At that time it was difficult for me to visualize Christ as a shepherd because for me he is at the centre of universe- omnipresent, omniscience and all empowering force. Thinking him as a coy, meek shepherd boy was a hard task for me during those years. The revelation that the human relationship has been established through this comparison took me by surprise. I neither repent nor regret. In fact am joyous to see the other side of the mirror for someone has correctly said that the mirror has two faces. Such is the charisma and enigma of Jesu

The peace and harmony is at stake today as We witness an increase in crimes against women and children all across the world, the plight of poor children and women in third world countries, drug addiction consuming the lives of many unwise and misguided people, murders, thefts, amassing wealth by dishonest means, adultery, exploitation of the weak, etc .
