Litto Gomez’s Small Batch has Big Demand I’d say the third times the charm but let’s face it- all the cigars Litto makes tend to be winners. The latest limited edition from La Flor Dominicana, Litto Gomez has released Litto’s Small Batch #3 to a very anxious world of cigar lovers. A Dominican puro, the binder and filler consist of tobacco grown on Litto’s farm in 2004. This tobacco is rare. This tobacco is in limited supply. And this tobacco is awesome. This installment of Small Batch is enveloped in a strikingly beautiful, dark Sumatra-seed wrapper. A particularly brilliant choice, the blending of this cigar fashions a very flavorful and complex stick, riddled with spice but sprinkled with sweetness. Nuances of cedar fill the gaps so perfectly that I dare say this is my favorite of the limited editions from camp La Flor Dominicana. But I should warn you, this Cigar is on the meaty side. Meaning, eat some serious meat before you settle in to smoke it…. Like two giant steaks w

Pinar del Rio 1878 Reserva Dominica Capa Oscura Lands at Select Retailers I think if Santa was a cigar smoker (the rumor is he’s a pipe man) then the latest cigar from Abraham Flores would be his stick of choice. Though not officially released until IPCPR 2011, 1500-2000 of the brand spankin’ new PDR 1878 Reserva Dominica Capa Oscura were given to select retailers around the country. Lucky for me, one of them was my local brick and mortar, Emerson’s Cigars. Originally coined the Holiday Blend (another selling point for Santa) this cigar has been blowing up the blogs and peaked my interest enough that I had to track some down. Well let me tell you, it’s not all hype. I thought I had found my favorite cigars already for 2010 at this year’s trade show but this one has squeaked in at the last minute. The PDR 1878 Reserva Dominica Capa Oscura (try saying that five times fast) is an all Dominican cigar but doesn’t really smoke like one. Allow me to explain. Take a look at this blend:

And with a million of them on the market (maybe not a MILLION…I should check those facts) it can be tough to decide. Lucky for you, I’ve done the research and after hours and hours of annoying/painstaking internal deliberation, I’ve narrowed my picks to three amazing pieces. Cigar Plastic Surgery - El Triunfador by Pete Johnson Returns El Triunfador is back…but it’s had a little work done. This amazing cigar, from Tatuaje’s leading man, Pete Johnson has arrived. Featuring an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, as opposed to the Connecticut Broadleaf on the 2008 edition, this El Triunfador isn’t quite as friendly. Meaning…. it’ll bite ya. But do not fret-this spice is not all power. Pete had the assistance of cigar legend Pepin Garcia. And when Garcia added those flavorful, complex, and beautiful tobaccos of Nicaragua, the result is a medium to full bodied with miles of potential. Literally meaning “the victor” or “the winner” in Spanish, El Triunfador fits nicely into Pete Johnson’s “no nonsense, take no prisoners” approach to cigars. Tatuaje especially has done fantastic things in this industry. (Hello? Anyone else’s mouths still watering from last year’s Drac?) But the El Triunfador, with its beautiful Cuban artwork and dazzling style, is a lesson in und

Alec Bradley’s Prensado Crescendo There’s nothing like a well-constructed box-pressed cigar. Not sure if it’s the wave to tradition or the way the tobacco is experienced but either way- it’s special. Alec Bradley knows it too. That’s why the Prensado is such an exciting companion to their collection of cigars. Literally meaning “box-pressed” in Spanish, the Prensado’s inspiration springs from a rare Corojo 2006 wrapper grown in Trojes, Honduras, located right next to the Nicaraguan border. And as the words of Marcus Valerius Martial so eloquently convey, “rarity gives a charm; so early fruits and winter roses are the most prized. ” Therefore, the filler, binder, and subsequently the blend thereof, had to be perfection. Alan Rubin, president of Alec Bradley, finally went with the strong flavors of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos with an amazing Nicaraguan binder. This masterpiece took over six months to create and Alan notes his ascendancy over time as one of many perks to being

Joya de Nicaragua Cabinetta: Two-Toned Jewel There is a reason this cigar is named Joya de Nicaragua. Meaning "Jewel of Nicaragua," this cigar was created in Nicaragua s FIRST cigar factory. This brand has always been popular in American culture- a favorite of elite society, politicians, and a standard presence in the White House. They’ve been a strong force in the cigar world for over 40 years and the use of beautifully strong Nicaraguan tobaccos is kinda their thing. This year, they’ve introduced the Joya de Nicaragua Cabinetta for us to enjoy. The first thing you notice about this cigars is the visually striking dual wrapper. But this, my friends, is not intended as just a feast for the eyes. The choice and construction of the wrapper leaves is what the entire flavor profile of the Cabinetta is based around. It’s initially rolled with an Ecuadorian wrapper leaf then finished with that amazingly seductive Nicaraguan wrapper. So as you make your way through the cigar, you rec

La Gloria Cubana Cigar Rolling Event Comes to Hampton Roads, VA Have you ever wondered what it would be like to roll your own cigar? Well, wonder no more! For two days in August, renowned cigar big shots La Gloria Cubana will be hosting a rolling event at Emerson’s Cigars, located in Hampton Roads, Virginia. La Gloria Cubana has been making amazing cigars for aficionados for generations. And much like the peacock, who displays its beautiful fan of rainbow feathers to display pride and superiority, La Gloria Cubana introduced Artesanos de Tabaqueros earlier this year. Meaning “artisan cigar makers,” this line was specifically created to display, without caution, the best that General cigar has to offer. Only the president cigar makers, the “elite 18,” were hand-selected by Benji Menendez himself to craft this exhibition of true top caliber. A genius dual-wrapper, Connecticut Shade/Ecuadorian Sumatra, is combined with Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers to create a flavor profile so ex
